Dance Bridge in 2023

Mademoiselle Cinema was formed in 1993 at Kagurazaka Session House. Influenced by Pina Bausch, Rosas, and others, women who aspired to contemporary dance gathered at the time and moved from "learning" to "creating and showing" dance. As "traveling dance," we have been sharing the joy of dance with people of all ages through performances and workshops in Japan and abroad. And many repertory pieces were created during those travels.
30 years since its formation.
Once again, it is a day of [departure] to dance with those who have been involved in dance and to search for the landscape of dance in the future. 4 of the works, including the newest, are junction = [bridges] on this travel.

It's a Mysterious Place. Home is.

─ Marguerite Duras

An older sister and her younger sisters marrying into a foreign country.
"The Mysterious Place", which premiered in 2006 and depicts the way families change over time, is a traveling dance work that has traveled throughout Japan and overseas. Nowadays, times and values have changed from when it was first created, as well as the position of women and the way we think about sexuality itself, but we will re-perform it in search of a universality that remains unchanged. It is a 30-year history that has been passed down through various dancers.

This work is a duo work by Ryohei Kondo and Erika Nowada that was performed in November 1999. It is a "reliving experience" where all the memories are traced back to the present from the remaining images. Rather than a "re-performance", we will perform the performance by incorporating the "longings" and "dreams" that existed at that time into this place. He will be assisted by Kotone Yasaka, who has just turned 20. Together with the members of Mademoiselle Cinema, we would like to go further back in time and tell the story of those who set out on a journey with dreams and longings for oversea. I will try my best to express what I can do now as a form of dance. May dreams and longings continue.
Ryohei Kondo

I became a bride and crossed the sea.
That was over 100 years ago.

In the Taisho and Showa eras, when information was still unknown, brides in photos traveled to unknown countries because their husbands called them. My grandmother was one of them. I imagine that even in these difficult times, there must have been a sense of longing as they crossed the sea and returned. This time, we will perform together works written by Ryohei Kondo, who spent his childhood in South America, and the late Erika Nowada. Then, with the memories hidden deep in our hearts, Mademoiselle Cinema will dance the dreams and longings we have now, choreographed by Ryohei Kondo.
